Located right at the start of Franconia Notch in the southern portion of the White Mountains National Forest is a beautiful resort called Loon Mountain Resort — a place that offers all types of adventure and activity for every season and everyone. With cozy lodging, tons to do, and the ability to use this stunning spot as your wedding venue, it truly is the perfect getaway and the perfect place to plan your adventure elopement day in New Hampshire.

Hey, I'm Caroleanne a New Hampshire Elopement Photographer here to help you planning your day, find the perfect spot, and guide you along the way to an unforgettable day.

Getting Ready at the Resort — With a View for you Loon Mountain Elopement

Loon Mountain Elopement couples detail items oysters with pearls.

There's something really special about getting ready right where the adventure begins. Jackie and Cody stayed at Loon Mountain Resort and spent their morning surrounded by all the little mementos they'd collected — the details that tell the story of who they are together. With the mountain as their backdrop and skiers drifting down the slopes outside, these getting-ready moments were unhurried, personal, and completely them.

Jackie planned several little surprises to add a little more meaning to their day. One of those surprises being opening oysters to reveal the pearl that Jackie would wear in her necklace on their elopement day.

If you're dreaming of a Loon Mountain elopement or a Lincoln NH wedding, staying on-site is something I always recommend. It sets the tone for the whole day — no rushing, no logistics stress, just you two soaking in the morning together.

A Loon Mountain Elopement First Look by the River

Before we headed up the mountain, we slipped down to the river for their first look. I will never get tired of first looks — that moment right before they turn around, the smile they can't contain. By the water, with the sounds of the river around them, it was just the two of them being fully present in this moment.

The Lincoln area is full of beautiful river spots that make for stunning and intimate first look locations — it's one of the reasons I love photographing elopements here so much.

Riding the Gondola Up — A Loon Mountain Wedding Experience Like No Other

gondola ride on loon mountain elopement day in new hampshire.

Okay, can we just talk about how cool it is to ride a gondola to your wedding? We loaded up and headed to the summit together, and walking off at the top with views of the White Mountains stretching out in every direction — it's truly breath taking.

We made our way to the ceremony viewpoint and just... paused. There was no checklist and no pressure. Just two people standing on top of a mountain on their wedding day, really letting it land. That's the kind of moment I live for as a photographer — when everything slows down and you can just *be* in it.

Planning something like a gondola ride at Loon Mountain isn't just for the ceremony — it's a fun little experience. The ride up, the views, the feeling of being above it all together... it's something you'll talk about for the rest of your lives.

The Beautiful Pivot — Why Flexibility Makes the Best Days

Couple overlooking mountain view for loon mountain elopement day.

Here's something I always tell my couples: the best elopement days are the ones where you hold the plan loosely. When we realized the sun was hitting the viewpoint in a way that was going to make it hard for the groom to focus on his vows — like, literally difficult to see — we didn't panic. We pivoted.

We soaked up the mountain views, took our time, rode the gondola back down, and headed toward the Kancamagus Highway. And honestly? What was waiting for us there ended up being the most perfect ceremony backdrop imaginable.

This is why I plan elopements the way I do. Flexibility isn't a backup plan — it's part of the adventure. The more time you plan into your day the more time you have to just chill enjoy it, and make these last minute pivots with no stress.

Waterfall Vows on the Kancamagus Highway

I wish I could show you the look on their faces when we arrived. A stunning waterfall, completely secluded, not another soul around. Just them, the sound of rushing water, and the words they'd been saving for this exact moment.

The Kancamagus Highway is one of those places that feels like it was made for love stories. It's beautiful and a little untamed. Their vows were sweet and real just like the surroundings of the White Mountains. Check out this Kancamagus Highway Elopement Guide for more information on how to plan your day along this scenic highway.

If you're looking for a Lincoln NH elopement location or dreaming of a Kancamagus Highway wedding, this area is *it*. I know all the hidden spots, and I would love nothing more than to bring you to them.

Exploring, Picnicking & Love Letters

After their ceremony, they wandered. They explored the waterfall area, hand in hand, newlyweds figuring out what that word even felt like. Then they spread out a picnic they'd packed together — because of course they did — and settled into the best kind of afternoon.

And then came the part that absolutely wrecked me in the best way: they pulled out letters that their loved ones had written them to read on their elopement day. Words from the people who couldn't be there in person, but whose love showed up anyway, folded into envelopes, opened in the mountains.

Elopements aren't about leaving people out. They're about choosing the most intentional, most *you* version of your wedding day — and still carrying the people you love with you.
